Summer Cadence 2025
Tuesdays (and a Friday), July 8, 11, 22, 29 — 2:30–5:00 p.m.
Tuition: $200
This July, Cadence Choir invites students entering grades 4–8 to join us for a joyful and exploratory series of creative workshops, held Tuesday afternoons at St. Anselm's Church. These sessions offer a low-pressure, high-engagement introduction to the Cadence approach: learning music through listening, creativity, and community.
Rather than starting with sheet music, we'll start with sound—experimenting with vocal improvisation, storytelling, simple composition, and collaborative performance. Each workshop ends with a brief, informal mini-performance for one another, and the final session on July 29 will include a short sharing for family and friends. No prior experience or music reading is required—just curiosity, imagination, and a willingness to try.
These workshops also serve as a creative "seedbed" for the new Cadence Choir launching this fall: an after-school training and performance ensemble that blends high-level musicianship with a spirit of play, reflection, and co-creation. Participants in the summer program will have a unique opportunity to shape the tone and content of the fall season—including early explorations of music and material for Ember Light, the weekly child-led musical gatherings that will anchor the Cadence year.
Hosted at St. Anselm's Church, the Cadence program is spiritually informed but non-sectarian—centered on beauty, wonder, and expressive growth, not religious instruction. These summer sessions offer a chance to step inside a new kind of musical community at its very beginning, where each voice matters and each contribution helps create something larger than itself.
